Neurofeedback

Neurofeedback is a non invasive treatment used to help a variety of conditions having to do with brain functions. It is a much preferred alternative to medications when one wants to achieve results without altering our body’s chemistry. With this type of training you don’t have to worry about the unpleasant side effects which usually accompany the use of drugs.

The idea for this type of therapy originated with the publication of various scientific reports between 1929 and 1938, detailing electroencephalogram (EEG) studies. The discovery of Alpha waves, their relation to relaxation, and how one can train our brains to go into the state at will, was the topic of an article published in the late 60’s in the magazine Psychology Today. With this publication, the subject was revived and caught the interest of many. Between then and the early 70’s, Barbara Brown’s books on neurofeedback were key to popularising the therapy.

The technologies necessary to popularise this alternative therapy in the mainstream were quite expensive at the time. Today, with various tools at our reach it has become viable to offer these services and help many overcome a wide range of issues. Depression, ASD, ADHD, dyslexia, addiction, migraines sufferers and many others can significantly benefit from this.

The sessions are enjoyable and are composed of various activities to stimulate specific areas of the brain. You can choose from audio, video, and even touch alternatives depending on your preferences. Your brain waves will be measured while you interact with any of these mediums and your brain will adjust itself by adapting. Repeated exposure to the appropriate stimuli will “train” your brain to recognise and react accordingly and upon completion of the program, you will later be able to use this in real world situations.
